The greatest (late) summer snack! One pint for $5.
Ground cherries are one of the few “sweet treats” from the summer garden. The flavor is somewhat tart, and reminiscent of pineapple, mango and lemon. Ground cherries are very versatile, suitable in both sweet and savory dishes. You can just unwrap the fruits and eat them raw (the golden orange fruits are the sweetest), chop them into salads and salsas, bake them into pies and tarts, make jams or chocolate coat them or make a wine reduction of grounds for your favorite sweet and savory dishes! Store the ground cherries at room temperature on your kitchen counter out of direct sunlight. They will store for a few weeks and continue to ripen as they sit.
